The old adage, “Loose lips sink ships” is very applicable to the label printing industry. Seemingly small discrepancies in terminology to describe one label type versus another can prove problematic.
This is evident when distinguishing the two “durable” options: weatherproof labels and extended life durable decals. To the casual observer, the two can seem synonymous. To someone caught in the elements with the wrong one, the differences can be all too apparent. Let’s examine each.
“Weatherproof” means the label is printed on durable stock, is laminated for sun and weather exposure for up to 18 months, and can be created in dozens of color, size and shape configurations. These can be perfect for such outdoor applications as HVAC, vehicles and fixtures; and be used indoors on soap and shampoo containers and other products exposed to moisture and extreme temperatures.
“Extended life durable decals”—available in quantities as low as 50—are even more so durable than our weatherproof option, so they’re perfect for industrial settings. Submerging the label for long periods of time (> 1 hour), and exposure to harsh chemicals or excessive handling are definite indicators that you’ll need a durable decal. They are also weather and sun resistant for up to four years.
