June 30, 2015For over a century, Underwriters Laboratory (UL) has been issuing globally recognized certifications for product safety. Products that meet their stringent requirements are specially labeled. This safety label is considered a “component” of the certified device (e.g. appliances and electronics) and typically contains information such as warnings, instructions or electrical ratings. As a component on the device, the UL Label must also meet stringent requirements, and so UL also vets its label suppliers through an equally rigorous certification process.

Discount Labels is celebrating 50 years in the custom label business this month with customer appreciation promotions and a celebratory picnic for employees.
Fred Conway, Indiana businessman and firefighter, founded the company in May 1965. Mr. Conway invented the Emergency Phone Sticker which was used on household phones nationwide for decades. After setting up a national network of distributors, moving to its current New Albany location, and investing in presses, Discount Labels quickly became America’s largest custom label printer selling only to the trade, a position it still holds a half century later.
Discount Labels Hires Brian Webb as National Director of Strategic Accounts

Discount Labels, the nation’s largest custom label trade printer, has named Brian Webb as its new National Director of Strategic Accounts.
Mr. Webb will be responsible for working with Discount Labels’ strategic accounts to grow sales by targeting key customer groups and offering newly designed education, sales and marketing programs to rally revenues and profit.
